Current Situation

Situation Summary

Firefighters continue to make significant progress on the Post Fire, outside of Gorman, CA, with minimal fire activity occurring overnight. Interior spots continue to produce smoke and heat with a visible glow in areas of heavy fuels.

Today, crews will continue extending and reinforcing their control lines to protect infrastructure and natural resources. Infrastructure protection is ongoing around Pyramid Lake, including Pyramid Lake Dam and support facilities, as well as Southern California Edison electrical 500KV transmission lines. Other assets threatened are State and Federal recreation sites, communication sites, United States Forest Service fire stations, oil pipelines, private camps and residences along Interstate 5, and multiple waterways.

Steep terrain and brush continue to make access difficult for fire personnel.  Shuttling by boat from Lake Pyramid and flights in by helicopter continue an effective way to access active fire and protect control lines.

Weather conditions last night were favorable and allowed crews to increase containment lines. Today, warm and dry conditions are expected, with winds gusting around 20 MPH in the afternoon. A significant warming trend is expected to begin Thursday and continue through the weekend.
