Current Situation

Situation Summary

Firefighters are making significant progress building and reinforcing containment lines around the perimeter of the Post Fire outside of Gorman. Crews continue conducting suppression repair throughout the fire footprint.

Approximately 768 personnel are actively working on the incident. Water tenders, helicopters and fire engines continue to manage hot spots within the fire, while patrols are focused on heat and smoke around the perimeter. With another day of hot temperatures and low humidity today, there is potential for visible smoke in the area.

As containment percentages increase, some fire crews have shifted their focus to suppression repair to return the watersheds and recreation areas to pre-fire conditions. Pyramid Lake remains closed to the public, as boat shuttle operations continue to allow crews to patrol for hot spots and conduct damage assessments on docks and other waterfront areas.

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect, and today temperatures will reach nearly 100 degrees. Humidity levels are expected to be between 10 and 25%. There is a possibility of thunderstorms with potential for lightning and gusty, erratic winds but minimal rain.
