Current Situation
Situation Summary
Firefighters continue to make progress with suppression efforts by building and reinforcing containment lines around the perimeter of the Post fire outside of Gorman. Pyramid Lake remains closed to the public.
Fire crews worked overnight to expand containment lines. Approximately 1,250 personnel are actively working on the incident protecting and repairing valuable resources and habitat. Safety is the main priority today, as hand crews and dozers continue to work on securing the rest of the fire perimeter. Water tenders, helicopters and fire engines will monitor hot spots within the fire footprint, while patrols are focused on heat and smoke around the perimeter. With hotter temperatures and drier air, there is a chance of increased smoke over the fire area today and tomorrow.
Fire crews are conducting suppression repair where opportunities present themselves, minimizing terrain alterations caused by dozer lines and constructing water bars throughout the impacted area to prevent erosion.
An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service, and today will be one of the hottest days on the fire, with temperatures over 100 degrees. Humidity levels are expected to be in the teens and possibly down to single digits, with winds up to 30 MPH. There is still a slight possibility of thunderstorms on Sunday, with any storms bringing minimal rain to the area.
