Chief Tran started his career with CAL FIRE - Office of the State Fire Marshal as a Pipeline Safety Engineer in 2018, where he led and performed numerous integrity management inspections and accident investigations of intrastate hazardous liquid pipeline systems throughout California. His work has focused on pipeline risk assessment, corrosion mitigation, regulatory compliance, and engineering analysis to help protect the public and the environment from pipeline failures.
Prior to working at CAL FIRE - OSFM, Chief Tran worked in both federal and state regulatory agencies, including the United States Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the California Public Utilities Commission, where he conducted construction inspections of natural gas pipelines, hazardous liquid pipelines along with liquified natural gas facilities, assisted with pipeline accident investigations, and wrote several enforcement letters.
Earlier in his career, he spent several years with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development as a chemical engineer specializing in quality assurance of construction materials, corrosion protection systems, coatings, and construction materials engineering.
Chief Tran holds a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of New Orleans, a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Memphis. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in California, Texas, and Louisiana, and has also earned certifications in coating inspection, cathodic protection, and pipeline welding inspection.
