Chief Sakamoto has nearly 38 years in the fire service. In 1986, she began her fire service career with Florin Fire Protection District as Fire Prevention Technician. In 1989, she started her state service career with the Office of the State Fire Marshal as a Deputy State Fire Marshal. She eventually promoted to Deputy State Fire Marshal III - Specialist, Deputy State Fire Marshal III - Supervisor and Division Chief. She served as the Chief of the Fire Engineering Division and Fire and Life Safety Division, respectively.

Chief Sakamoto has chaired the OSFM’s Sub-Joint Apprenticeship Committee, and several of OSFM’s advisory committees: Automatic Extinguishing Systems, General Fireworks, Fire Extinguisher, Fire Alarm, Flame Retardant and Special Effects. She also chaired the OSFM, High Rise Task Force and Solar Photovoltaic Installation Guideline Workgroup and co-chaired the Smoke Alarm Task Force.

Chief Sakamoto holds Associate of Science degrees in Fire Technology and Business Administration.

She has an adult son, Christopher, and enjoys spending time outdoors, running, cycling, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
