Land Use Planning Workgroup

PURPOSE

The Land Use Planning Workgroup will provide a means of communication between the Wildfire Mitigation Advisory Committee (WMAC) and CAL FIRE Office of the State Fire Marshal, representatives of industry, state agencies, the fire service, and other partners including tribal representatives. The Committee will provide a forum for addressing wildfire preparedness and mitigation issues of statewide concern related to land use planning, share best practices, seek comments and specific input on programs and technical issues.

GOALS

The Workgroup is being formed to act in an advisory capacity to the Wildfire Mitigation Advisory Committee on the issues facing the state related to Land Use Planning in high fire hazard areas. The Workgroup shall provide a forum for addressing wildfire preparedness and mitigation issues of statewide concern to both existing and planned development; serve as a community of practice to bridge information gaps across state government; and facilitate peer learning on topics pertaining to land use planning, home hardening and defensible space.
